Konica Minolta DiMAGE X60 Review Review

Review Summary
Reader Score: 7.70 (out of 10)
The Konica Minolta Dimage X60 is a decent ultra compact digital camera, and will appeal to those who prefer less saturated images. The camera is aimed squarely at the point and shoot market, and I think it does well in that respect, as there are few controls that go beyond the basics. The large 2.5" screen, ultra fast startup, and ultra compact body will definitely appeal, however image quality was fairly average, and may not be to everybody's tastes due to the low saturation, soft images and vignetting. The Konica Minolta Dimage X60 is a nice little camera and with the fairly low price, speedy performance, and ease of use, this camera is definitely worth considering, however make sure you have a look at the sample images to see if you will be happy with the results.

The Konica Minolta Dimage X60 is an ultra compact digital camera. It has five megapixels and a three times optical zoom lens. In terms of features it is a fairly typical of this type of camera. The emphasis is on ease of use rather than including a host of controls and features likely to appeal to an experienced photographer. Combined with its pocket size the Dimage X60 is likely to appeal to anyone who is looking for a straightforward digital camera that is small enough to take with them anywhere they go. It is also one of the cheapest ultra compact cameras produced by the major brands.

The 5-megapixel Konica Minolta Dimage X60 will appeal to snapshot photographers who want a no-fuss, no-muss camera that looks good and can be carried everywhere. This model updates the earlier X50 with a new internal 3X zoom lens, a 2.5-inch LCD, and a burst mode. It won't overwhelm anyone with its list of features and doesn't offer much in the way of manual controls, but it gives casual shooters all the tools they're likely to need.

The Konica Minolta DiMAGE X60 ($350) is the latest revision of the DiMAGE X-series of cameras. Like the X50 before it, the X60 features a 5 Megapixel CCD, folding lens technology, point-and-shoot operation, and a fast startup time. Changes since that model include the addition of 15MB of internal memory, a slightly more powerful zoom lens (3X versus 2.8X), a larger LCD display (2.5" versus 2.0"), and a slightly different design. The optical viewfinder was eliminated on the DiMAGE X60.

The X60 competes in the very crowded ultra-compact category, which means that it has its work cut out for it. How does it perform? Find out now in our review.

The Konica Minolta DiMAGE X60 is a decent camera - if it's found at the right price, and if all you want out of it is its ability to take snapshots. It has a rugged stylish frame, very easy to use functions, and has the perfect button layout and ergonomics to facilitate one-handed use. Unfortunately, the camera also has poor battery life and below average performance in color accuracy and noise. Its slow start-up and shot to shot speed may hinder shooting situations with lots of activity. The screen is prone to washing out and its low pixel count doesn't help either. The camera however is perfectly sized for unburdened pocket portability. Novices looking for a simple on-the-go point-and-shoot that is easy to handle and has a great feel have found their match. Unfortunately, those more intent on performance and features will have to keep up their search.

Continuing the trend of the entire Konica Minolta X-series cameras, the DiMAGE X60 is a very slim, small, and convenient digicam that offers just what most users want from this ultra-small category: good quality that they can take anywhere. Its very big 2.5 inch LCD is excellent indoors or out in bright daylight, so the optical viewfinder is not necessarily missed.
